Success Story

Designing MRT Viaduct

The MRT viaduct is a unique structure in Singapore which integrates an MRT station with a bus interchange and adjoining commercial developments such as shopping malls. In this project, the MRT viaduct is integrated with the building structure on levels B2, B1, and L1 and features a landscaped roof that fits seamlessly within the viaduct. The design adheres to the latest Eurocode standards, with the inclusion of Singapore’s national annex and references to PD6687-1 and PD6687-2. Using IDEA StatiCa, Ei Sheng Hong, the Bridge Design Lead at SMEC (part of the Surbana Jurong Group), along with his team, designed the superstructure, overcoming numerous challenges along the way.
